Friday saw Comic relief raising a record £74,360,207 with the public finding different ways of doing something funny for money.
There were many people in the generous and charitable mood on Red Nose Day, especially in Canterbury. Canterbury Christ Church events management students got involved by holding different events across the campus.
The second year students raised £819.54 with events such as speed dating, a casino and many more.
Rachel Walker, who was involved with running the chocolate factory event, said: “We all feel that it was a really successful day as we raised lots of money for a really great charity.
“All the events management students had an enjoyable day and it seemed that all the guests did too. Overall it was a very successful day and we are grateful for the donations that everybody made.”
However, they weren’t the only ones in Canterbury raising money for the charity. Sainsbury’s saw their staff in fancy dress as well as walking around with collection buckets.
BBC Radio Kent’s Matthew Davies performed a stand up routine on stage to raise money, with the hope of also raising a few laughs.
Kent County Council staff did a number of activities to raise money for the charity. Lisa Whitbread said: “We are still getting the totals but the activities included the Contact Centre taking calls from the public who donated over £100,000. They even had a little help from Joe Pasquale.
“The staff groups Greenhouse, Rainbow, UNITE and Level Playing Field came together to organise an amazing Red Nose Day fundraiser on Friday which raised over £1,200.
“Also the buildings support team, raised money for Comic Relief by wearing slippers and red t-shirts with nicknames on the back and by playing guess the number of sweets in the jar.”
The Canterbury campus of Kent university also got involved in the fundraising with the admissions staff donating money to take part in a raffle for various prizes, taking part in a quiz and children's games as well as dressing up.
Clearly everyone has been extremely generous with their money during this tough financial climate and it is possible to still donate. For the opportunity to donate money to Comic Relief click here.
